Jury

Every year, there is a BLOODSHOTS screening, where the films are voted on by both the audience, and an in-person jury, as well as a remote Grand Prize Judge who is the final arbiter. This year’s Grand Prize Judge is: LARRY FESSENDEN (Director: Habit, Wendigo, The Last Winter / Producer: House of the Devil, I Sell the Dead, Stakeland / Actor: The Brave One, Broken Flowers, Session Nine, Bringing out the Dead)

LOCAL JURY:

This year’s local Jury includes Corey Adams (director, Machotaildrop, ex-Flesh + Fantasy FX), Bruce Sweeney (director, Excited, The Last Wedding) and Bloodshots alumni David Bertrand (Book of Terror, Cabin of Terror) and Ashley Fester (Old Breed).

The local jury will be giving out prizes for:
BEST SCRIPT
BEST ACTING
BEST DEATH
BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY
BEST ART DIRECTION
BEST COSTUMES
BEST MAKEUP/FX
BEST SOUND DESIGN/ORIGINAL SCORE
BEST USE OF PROP OR DIALOGUE
MOST SUBVERSIVE USE OF GENRE

Jury prizes from Rue Morgue Magazine (http://www.rue-morgue.com/), Synapse Films (http://synapse-films.com/), Black Dog Video (http://blackdogvideo.bc.ca/), the Rio Theatre (http://riotheatre.ca/), The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s MONDO store (http://www.mondotees.com/), FAB Press (http://www.fabpress.com/) and more!

In-person jury prizes will be awarded on site immediately following the screenings and a short period of deliberation by the jury. Ballots will be handed out to the audience and collected after the screening. The results of these ballots will be combined with the online voting results to give us the overall Audience Winner. These results will be posted online here on Nov. 1, 2011.

ONLINE VOTING:

Online voting open Oct. 24-28, 2011: Uploading your film to YouTube or Vimeo for online voting is OPTIONAL but highly advised so that you can get more votes (you can password-protect the video if worried about future festival eligibility). Please note these uploaded versions must be identical to those handed in physically – any differences will result in disqualification.

Every Bloodshots participant has a PROFILE on the Bloodshots website where their Youtube/Vimeo-hosted video can be displayed for easy one-click voting.

What the profile means is that you can login and have a place to embed your film code (from youtube or vimeo) as well as a 200 word synopsis and a thumbnail image. Each video will have an automatic voting button beside it that has various security measures embedded to avoid duplicate voting. THIS MEANS ONLINE VOTING WILL NOW TAKE PLACE THROUGH THIS WEBSITE INSTEAD OF THROUGH THE OLD SYSTEM OF EMAILING ME. It will make it much more convenient for your viewers. And of course if after the contest you decide to remove your video from Youtube/Vimeo it will disappear from the site also.

IMPORTANT: The website is still kind of under construction, so some features are still being added – it is not quite self-explanatory, so note that when you get to your profile page you will see three boxes. The first thin box is for the title of your film. the second biggest box is for your synopsis. The third box is where you paste in your embed code. The image browser allows you to select a picture from your harddrive that will show up as the thumbnail image for your video. Then your film will show up on the ‘films’ page.

These results will be tallied and combined with the audience results from the screening for the final score. All final scores will be posted on the Facebook Page on Nov. 1.

Online voting closes on Friday Oct. 28 at 7pm (Pacific Time). Tell your fans to get their votes in before then!

GRAND PRIZE ROUND:

THEN – the audience award winner and the jury award winner (or audience runner-up in the event that the same film wins both) will be sent to the Grand Prize Judge (LARRY FESSENDEN) who will pick his/her favorite of the films as well as offer a brief explanation as to what he/she liked about it.

That film will also win $1000, which will be paid out by money order within 14 days of the Grand Prize Judge’s determination.

Past Jurors have included Joe Dante (THE HOWLING, GREMLINS), Dan O’Bannon (writer, ALIEN, director RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD), Stuart Gordon (RE-ANIMATOR, STUCK), Neil Marshall (The Descent) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY, GRINDHOUSE).
